Don't be robbed of your Burning Heart Birthright
Between Easter and Pentecost it is good to spend some time reading and thinking about the various resurrection appearances of Jesus. One that I find particularly powerful is where the two disciples on the road Emmaus have an interaction with Jesus, without recognizing Him (Luke 24:13-35). After they had recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread they reflected on their experience and said "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"
They used to recognize Jesus and His words by His physical presence and now they were beginning to learn how recognize His voice without His physical presence. As they reflected on their experience, they recognized an internal experience that they had probably had various times before when Jesus was teaching them.
However, it is not just the privilege of the first disciples to hear and know Jesus' voice. He said in John 10:16 "I have other sheep ... they too will listen to my voice". As followers of Jesus, we all have the privilege of hearing His voice and recognizing it by the 'burning within us'.
Maybe you haven't learned to recognize Jesus' voice yet. That is ok, we all have to learn to recognize the voice of Jesus by experience. In this regard, it can be helpful to talk to more mature Christians who have more experience than us.
But maybe you haven't heard Jesus speak to you for a while. I hope these passages inspire you to again seek to hear Him again.
One simple thing that you might like to do is turn down the volume of all the other voices in your life.
