The Minor Prophets Aren't a Rock Band!
The 'Minor Prophets' are actually the last 12 books of the Old Testament. And the only reason they are called 'minor' is the length of the books when compared with the 'major' prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.
So here is a question - when was the last time you read them?
Most of us will have parts of the bible that we read regularly. We will also have parts that we tend to read less regularly, if at all. I think for many people, the 'Minor Prophets' fall into this second category. Yet they contain great insights including:
-
prophecies relating to Jesus
-
the verse - 'What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God'
-
prophecies that were fulfilled at the day of pentecost
From now through to the end of December we have an opportunity to read through these books simply by following the Moravian Reading plan (see www.encounterbc.org). These books are short, usually only a few chapters long, and the daily readings are even shorter!
These 12 books form an important part of the Scriptures Jesus read and studied as he was growing up. Let's take this chance to read them for ourselves.
